It's #DisabilityPrideMonth :disability_pride:
Time for my annual PSA for #Video Creators:
Subtitles Are Vital
Also, plan on them going Over your video
When you put important info at the bottom of the screen I have to pause, turn off subtitles, rewind, play it to see the info, pause, & turn subtitles back on- unless I miss it entirely because the subtitles hide it!

@KarinWanderer

And for people or screen readers who can't read all caps easily, here is the all caps sentence again: Subtitles are vital, use them

Now for my comment:

And a reminder that sometimes subtitles will take up two lines, and people also have control over font size and may make the subtitles larger.

@KarinWanderer And thank you for updating. It's quite random as to whether a particular screen reader reads an all-caps word as that word or spelled out, and different screen readers may react differently to the same word.

What separates a good app from a great one is attention to detail, performance and simplicity

I think we got it right this time, and I can't wait to make history by shipping the official @pixelfed mobile app 🚀

@dansup @villepreux @pixelfed I find even compliant gray text (perhaps #333 or lighter) distracting to read. If I'm on a web page, I'll sometimes inspect the CSS and darken it. I suggest checking the OS's Increase Contrast setting and using blackish text if it's on.

A new gold standard review of 100 studies finds:

  • masks are effective in reducing transmission of respiratory diseases

  • N95 respirators are significantly more effective than medical or cloth masks

  • mask mandates are effective in reducing community transmission

@luckytran I remember seeing a table from the Omicron era saying if you were the only one wearing an N95 it was effective in the presence of the COVID virus for about an hour. ¿Has that information been updated to the current mutations?

Looks like Mastodon's experimental branch is trying stuff out with how you create posts:

-Unlisted post visibility has been renamed to "Quiet Public"
-Mentions/DMs is renamed to "Specific People"
-Polls have visible control for switching from one answer to multiple answers
-Content Warning title bar has been tweaked
-Visibility and language menus more prominent
-Tweaked artwork

Screenshots attached, people on servers running the experimental branch will already be seeing this in action.

@SynAck @FediTips Actually, you can do something about it. You can file an issue on Mastodon's github issues queue https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues

I do suggest searching to see whether someone has already reported the issue, in which case you can follow and/or comment on that issue.

No guarantee they'll implement it, but it does increase your chances.
