Finally, two years after the legal settlement, Apple customers who struggled with their faulty laptop keyboards will now have their payment.

But this is what I simply do not get: Apple sells a faulty product all over the world, and now US citizens get paid. What about the rest of the planet?

@randahl You'd think just from a reputational point of view it’d be worth paying out globally.

I'm done for today.

I get people panicking, I feel it too.

But I've blocked so many people today for wishing for violence, saying voting doesn't matter, etc.

I have no tolerance for that. None.

And then one coming in saying that I was "for the status quo" and blocking me... that was mature. From kolektiva server, so there's that.

Seriously, I'm so over today.

I hope those of you who are more rational have a more peaceful evening.

Today sucked, but let's stay rational. PLEASE.

@GottaLaff @lisamelton Anyone whose response to what’s happened today is “voting doesn’t matter” has singularly failed to learn the lessons of the past decade.

Other than being one of the greatest espionage movies ever made, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) is also an interesting film because I have never seen a city get so thoroughly sledged in a movie than London does there.

By which I mean, I saw that movie in cinemas and decided I never, ever, EVER wanted to visit London, despite being fully aware that it's a cinematic depiction, not a documentary. Nothing has ever looked so drab and soul-sucking than London in that film.

@vampiress It is the most spectacular film. I rewatch it regularly. Worth it for the glasses frames alone.

This is perfect. Marjorie Taylor Greene is doubling down on the firing of Mike Johnson.

She is effectively creating a situation, where Democrats can tell Mike Johnson, either you back the supplemental aid package (with Ukraine aid), or we back your removal.

Charles ,

@randahl …which they will fail to capitalise on.

These are two actual headlines right next to one another on the frontpage of CNN right now.

How can The White House not see the problem?

Charles ,
@Charles@gascoigne.social avatar

@randahl The question I have in mind is what’s the legal framework for the munitions — is there legislation or a treaty or both limiting the executive’s freedom of action?

    [1/2] https://www.theguardian.com/science/2024/mar/17/neuroscience-research-australia-neuralink-elon-musk-brain-chips

Advances in brain-machine interfaces are dangerous. Musk has spoken in favor of fascism more than once. He could make Neuralink implants trigger pleasure in the brain whenever the patient hears words that endorse fascism. If the Neuralink itself is not capable of relaying the sound that the patient is hearing, the apparatus to run it could simply have an internet-connected …

@rms Anyone who lets Musk implant something into their brain needs their head read. Which is convenient, I guess…

This is the actual world we live in now...

"Mystery Billionaire Buys Apocalypse-Ready Bunker Surrounded By Fire Moat"

In a dystopic but perhaps unsurprising turn, the ultra-wealthy are investing in fortified shelters like never before. Mark Zuckerberg’s purchase of a 5,000-square-foot bunker beneath his Kauai ranch has set off something of a buying frenzy, with the global elite seeking refuge from future threats like armed conflict, cyberattacks, and climate change.

But it’s far worse than just bunkers: Al Corbi, president of Strategically Armored & Fortified Environments, is overseeing the creation of custom designs for the uber-rich that go far beyond traditional shelters. His most ambitious project to date is an island fortress with a 30-foot-deep lake surrounded by a flammable liquid moat, water cannons for aerial threats, and a whole lot more, set to be completed in 2025.

@vampiress There are accelerators but they often break games. Ethernet card? Not much point if you get a bluescsi and do wifi. External monitor? SE/30 a better base — you can get one of the double adaptor cards for the PDS slot and do truly dumb stuff to it.

    That said…transparent case…
