With regards to UK General Election 2024, I'm a paid-up member of the Green Party of England & Wales, so how do you think I'll be voting ?

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. For a complete list of posts, browse on the original instance.

Have you ever browsed the website of another Fediverse server, and it tells you to log in again even if you're already logged in? Or asked you to give your server name?

You can avoid fuss by doing the following:

  1. Log in on your own server's website or your app
  2. Copy the web address of the post or profile from the other server's site
  3. Paste the address into the search box on your own server or app. This will make the other server's post or profile appear within your own server.

@FediTips There are also browser extensions like "FediRedirect" which you can use so that, once you've set it up to know your home server,:

  1. You've clicked on a Fediverse link and have the post open on its origin server.
  2. Open the extension menu, click the 'Mastodon' item, you're redirected to your server's view of that post.

@FediTips @iagox86 @jgordon Another scenario is due to the lack of quote-toots.

People like to first boost the post but then also want to comment on it to their followers (rather than a reply), so they copy the toot link and paste it into a new toot of their own.

When someone else sees this 'quote' toot and clicks the link to the original they'll end up on the originating server for that toot.

@FediTips @iagox86 @jgordon I should have said, I'm a weirdo who sticks to desktop browser for anything I can :) .

The mentioned extension definitely works on desktop Firefox, I've not yet attempted it on Android.

HT @bontchev

Somebody figured out the secret technique that 3rd-party AV uses to disable Microsoft Defender so that they themselves can run without interference.

This tool uses this technique to install a null AV product, thus having the effect of simply disabling Microsoft Defender.

@wdormann @bontchev Please tell me use of this WSC API at least requires Admin/SYSTEM.

I'm mostly hoping that not habitually logging in as other than a Limited user offers some protection. Obviously if I UAC+adminpassword an trojan installer I'm still toast.

In case you missed it, Mastodon has an optional Tweetdeck-style multi-column interface which you can use on a computer or tablet in horizontal mode. Here's how to activate and use it:

Whether you use single column or multi-column is a matter of taste, just posting this to raise awareness that both options are available 👍

@FediTips This works great with creating extra columns from Lists.

I just wish I could move the 'post', 'Home', and 'Getting Started' columns around....
