dandelion , 2 months ago to random Morning sun - figuratively and literally 🔆 Erythronium albidum has many names - White Fawnliily, Trout Lily, White Dogs-Tooth Violet, and Thousand-Leaf. #NativeFlowers #GreatPlains #Woodlands #FloweringFriday A similar scene as in the previous picture but this time they are two of the star slapped flowers visible, and another, smaller one, also white, but with round petals. More of the surrounding vegetation is visible. Several blade-like, single, mottled leaves emerging from sandy ground. Some of them are lined up in a way that suggests how they propagate - with underground runners. These leaves can cover entire hillsides - hence the name "Thousand-Leaf". Their mottling and shape also explains another of the names - "Trout Lily".

dandelion , 3 months ago to random Common Serviceberry blooms (Amelanchier arborea) are brightening up the dark understory of our forest #Woodlands #NativePlants #GreatPlains A slightly more distant view at the same branch. The mostly horizontal growth of the branches gives the spray of blossoms a layer-like appearance.
