DRAGON LAKE (1988)
Acrylic on Watercolor Board - 30" x 20"
"Some come easy, some come hard," said Norman Rockwell, when someone asked him how long it took for him to complete a painting. Like him, I'm somewhat of a perfectionist. 1/4

On the shore of a lake, a red-headed woman in Romani-style garb approaches a dragon twice her height. Orange scaled, its sinuous neck curves as it lifts a beak shaped head. Gripping rock with hind legs and forelimb, its tail swishes water as wings flair back warily. A flame pattern ripples along the underside of the limb supporting its wing. More gold scales run under its chin down its belly and along the underside of its tail.
The woman wears a purple silk cloth over her hair with pink cloak trailing. The sleeves of her azure blouse puff out until they meet form fitting leather gloves at the elbow. Her belt broadens in the back, accented with chains and jewels. Her silky pants are also baggy until they tuck into her fine leather boots at the calf.
In the distance, other dragons can be seen bathing in the shallows. Lush evergreens give way to grassy hills and eventually angular mountains that thrust upward aglow in the sunlight.
