There is a group of anti-LGBTQ protestors organizing outside of the SLU Busch Student Center due to Trans activist Dylan Mulvaney being on campus. Anyone who is able please meet us outside of the Center for Global Citizenship (near the clock tower).
Yesterday I joined a protest in #StLouis about #WhitePhosphorous. A chemical weapon, which kills and maims by chemical burn. White Phosphorous is produced by #Monsanto (headquartered here in STL), sold to #ICL (which also operates out of STL), and then sold by ICL to several militaries, including the US and IDF.
In many ways it can feel like these wars are solely the decisions of far away politicians, happening in far away places, to far away people. But the machine is also here at home.

Luckily, I have a full thermos of strong coffee and this sunrise to enjoy while I chug it. Unfortunately, I have to walk into work at some point... 😡 If I was 20 years younger, I'd call in, damn my old fashioned dedication.

Today in Labor History February 15, 1764: the city of St. Louis was established in Spanish Louisiana (now Missouri). In the 1800s, St. Louis would grow to become the second largest port in the U.S. and one of the major centers of labor organizing. In 1877, during the Great Train Strike, black and white workers united to take over the town in what some called the St. Louis Commune, after the Paris Commune, a few years earlier. The uprising in St. Louis was led by the socialist Workingmen’s Party, fighting for the 8-hour workday and an end to child labor. The Commune was quashed after soldiers killed 18 workers.

If anyone is curious about how difficult it can be to get social services in the US, the town of Edwardsville, IL is fining a church $750/day for operating an overnight warming shelter for the homeless (the town's only, the town itself provides no services) without a (newly required) permit. As I write this post, the temp in Edwardsville is -7F/-22C.
