Today in Labor History June 16, 1836: The London Working Men's Association was formed, launching the Chartist movement. The Chartists took their name from the People's Charter, which demanded universal suffrage for men, regardless of social class. The movement appealed to skilled workers, not the masses of unskilled laborers. They followed the utopian socialism of Robert Owen. The movement lasted from 1838 to 1857. America’s first cop, Allan Pinkerton, creator of the Secret Service & persecutor of the Molly Maguires, was a radical participant in the Chartist movement before becoming the bulldog of capitalists. While the Chartism was primarily a constitutional movement, there was a radical, insurrectionary wing. Pinkerton was a part of this wing. He fought cops, destroyed property, set fires and had to flee the UK in order to avoid imprisonment. President #Biden will be in Wilmington, DL, w/no appearances scheduled. But he has given no indication that he would be in the courthouse — a possibility that would require considerable security arrangements.
Judge Maryellen Noreika swore in 12 #jurors — + 4 alternates — to determine the #legal fate of #HunterBiden, who is on trial for 3 #felony#gun charges….
A substitute #teacher, a fmr #SecretService employee & multiple #GunOwners were among those chosen to report back to court Tues morning, when opening arguments are expected to begin.…Most were people of color, &…appeared to range from mid-20s to 70s.
I am seriously surprised that everyone is talking about Trump getting booed at the Libertarian Party event last night without also talking about how Trump had Secret Service TAKE ALL THE FAKE SQUEAKING CHICKENS away from audience members who were given that chicken by Bob Kennedy.
It was set up so when Trump came on stage ALL THOSE PEOPLE THAT BOOED WOULD ALSO HAVE A SQUEAKING CHICKEN TO BRANDISH AT TRUMP.
No one is talking about that.
Trump MADE THEM NOT ALLOW THE CHICKEN.
And he was booed any way.

Trump, who loves having everyone's eyes on him, is talking to his lawyers. After a bit, his posse starts to leave.
Prosecutors try to as well, but are stopped by #SecretService.
The power dynamic is whack. Prosecution has the power to ask the judge to hold Trump in contempt & to ask jurors to convict him. But the #USSS has the power to stop prosecutors from leaving if deemed necessary.
Officials HAVE had preliminary discussions about how to protect the former president in the unlikely event that he is jailed for #contempt during the trial.
