Well now I can finally share - I just started my first day as a federal scientist at NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory.
I'll be continuing research on improving our understanding of climate prediction and projection, especially with data-driven approaches for high-impact extremes.
@ZLabe Nice! I worked at #NOAA for a little while, providing software support for analyzing expanded variable spaces when perturbing inputs to big oceanic circulation (and cyclone) model forecasting.
I'm in my dream career in astronomy now, but I do reminisce about logging in to work and spinning up 30000 cores to test my dinky modeling projects. Congrats on your new research position!
…At #NOAA, where a 2020 investigation found that agency leaders violated its #ScientificIntegrity policy after #Trump showed a doctored hurricane forecast map, stricter standards took effect in March. A similar #policy will soon be extended to the #Commerce Dept, including to the #political appointees whose #violations were detailed in the 2020 probe.
After the [#Trump hurricane Dorian incident,]… #NOAA updated their policy…said NOAA’s #ScientificIntegrity officer. The #policy includes guidelines on how #scientists should conduct themselves, & asks them to articulate their findings openly & clearly to the #public. It establishes that “credible allegations of #fabrication, #falsification, #plagiarism, & #interference w/or undue #influence on accurate public reporting of #science” can result in “personnel actions” & referral to the IG’s office.
"An alliance of #rightwing groups has crafted an extensive presidential proposal to bolster the planet-heating #oil and #gas industry and hamstring the #EnergyTransition.
#Project2025, was convened by the notorious rightwing, #climate-denying thinktank the Heritage Foundation, which has ties to fossil fuel billionaire Charles Koch."
US citizens: please vote, and organize your friends. It's you against the #FossilFuel industry. The stakes are high.
"Allies of former President Trump want to muzzle federal climate science if he wins a second term.
The #Project2025 report says #NOAA should be “broken up and downsized” because “its current organization corrupts its useful functions.”
The document describes the agency’s office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research as the “source of much of NOAA’s climate alarmism” and says the “preponderance of its #ClimateChange research should be disbanded.”"
