MSF physiotherapist killed in Gaza while on his way to work (MSF, 2024-06-25)

“Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (#MSF) is outraged and strongly condemns the killing of our colleague, Fadi Al-Wadiya, in an attack this morning in Gaza City.
“Al-Wadiya was killed along with five other people, including three children, near an MSF clinic. He was cycling to work at the time, on his way to provide medical care to others who had been injured.”
“And when there was no fighting outside, the background sound was the cries of children in the #hospital. #Children maimed, with burns or without parents. Children having panic attacks, because physical pain triggers psychological wounds when pain reminds you of the bomb that changed your life forever."
“Calmer children draw drones and military jets. War is everywhere in the hospital; the smell of blood is unbearable. This is the image I bring back from #Gaza.”
At least seven people have been killed and a nurse working for Doctors Without Borders and her nine-year-old daughter have been seriously wounded after Israeli forces hit their apartment building on Thursday night in northern Gaza, MSF UK says.
⭕️Numerous military offensives in recent weeks have led to recurrent mass casualty influxes at #MSF-supported medical facilities in Rafah and the Middle Area of Gaza.
⭕️How can the killing of more than 800 people in a single week, including small #children, plus the maiming of hundreds more, be considered a military operation adhering to international #humanitarian law?,
⭕️ Israel repeatedly bombed so-called safe zones, #refugee camps, a school and multiple humanitarian warehouses, which were formally registered as ‘deconflicted’ by Israeli forces.
⭕️We call on Israel’s allies, including the #US, $UK, and #EU member states, to do everything in their power to influence Israel to stop attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza.
"It's a nightmare at Al-Aqsa," said Samuel Johann, #MSF coordinator in #Gaza. "How many more men, women, and children have to be killed before world leaders decide to put an end to this massacre?"
A Medicins Sans Frontieres's documentary made in May 2023, showing how efficient and somewhat advanced the healthcare system was in Gaza prior to Israel's assault. The healthcare system no longer exists in Gaza.
Scarlett Wong, a clinical psychologist for Doctors Without Borders, or Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), travelled to Gaza in March.
Part of her role was to locate and support 17,000 unaccompanied children, including "child heads of households" — the term given to young children who had to look after their siblings.
The Israeli Knesset’s preliminary bill to designate UNRWA as a terrorist organisation is an outrageous attack on humanitarian assistance, and an act of collective punishment against the Palestinian people.
Israel’s allies, which are all members of the United Nations, must stand against this move to criminalise humanitarian assistance and ensure that #UNRWA can continue its essential work.
Christopher Lockyear, secretary general of Doctors Without Borders (#MSF) International.
Horrific ... "Medical workers in #Gaza ‘exhausted’ and their message is not getting through, the #MSF chief has said. When asked about the types and extent of injuries arising out of an #Israeli airstrike in #Rafah that left at least 45 people dead, Dr Christos Christou, the Médecins Sans Frontières International president, says his organisation’s medical facility received more than 128 patients, some of whom, after being stabilised, have nowhere to turn for further surgical treatment.
Christou says he and MSF staff are exhausted and the message – that medical aid and the ability to transfer patients out of Gaza for treatment is desperately needed – is not getting through." (#Guardian live feed, 11:36 CEST, 28. May 2024)
#Gaza / Israelis Attacking Known Aid Worker Locations
[…] Israel’s attack on April 1 on the World Central Kitchen convoy, which killed seven workers, far from being an isolated “mistake,” is just one of at least eight incidents that Human Rights Watch identified in which aid organizations and UN agencies had communicated with Israeli authorities the GPS coordinates of an aid convoy or premises and yet Israeli forces attacked the convoy or shelter without any warning.
[…] In these eight incidents, Israeli forces killed at least 15 people, including 2 children, and injured at least 16 others.

Doctors Without Borders said that the intensification of the onslaught by Israeli forces on #Rafah has forced it to stop providing lifesaving care at Rafah Indonesian Field hospital as of 12 May.
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, says in a statement that it has been forced to stop providing healthcare at Rafah Indonesian Field Hospital as of May 12.
Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza on October 7, MSF personnel have been forced to leave 12 different health facilities and have endured 26 violent attacks.
MSF has seen a pattern of systematic attacks against medical facilities and civilian infrastructure.
"With more than 1.5 million civilians crowded into this sliver of land, an Israeli military escalation threatens to turn Rafah into a graveyard. We are calling for an immediate and sustained ceasefire to prevent more civilian deaths and injuries in Gaza and enable the urgent scale-up of humanitarian aid. The survival of civilians in Gaza depends on it."
Why we won't accept the narrative of regrettable incidents in Gaza (Médecins Sans Frontières, 2024-04-05)
Christopher Lockyear, Secretary General of #MSF remarked:
"Since the beginning of the war, nearly 200 humanitarian workers have been killed,.. Many of these humanitarians were killed while providing care for patients or sheltering with their families."
"... this pattern of attacks is either intentional or indicative of reckless incompetence."
"... That these attacks on humanitarian workers are allowed to happen is a political choice. Israel faces no political cost. Instead, its allies enable this brutality with impunity, and provide even more weapons that maim and kill civilians indiscriminately.
"The number of aid workers killed in Gaza is extraordinary, yet it is but a fraction of the total number of people killed so far. Now, nearly 33,000 men, women and children..."
An update from World Central Kitchen: "The IDF has acknowledged its responsibility and its fatal errors in the deadly attack on our convoy in Gaza. It is also taking disciplinary action against those in command and committed to other reforms. These are important steps forward.
However it is also clear from their preliminary investigation that the IDF has deployed deadly force without regard to its own protocols, chain of command and rules of engagement."
