"If President Joe Biden had faced hecklers or worse when he gave the Morehouse College commencement speech on Sunday, you would know about it. It would have led every newscast and dominated headlines in every paper, another dire portent of his alleged troubles with Black voters coming in November."
"Instead, Biden faced a low-key protest. He clapped for and shook hands with the valedictorian who demanded a cease-fire in Gaza, and otherwise fared well. So you probably didn’t hear about it."
In the powerful graduation speech Biden gave at Morehouse College, an HBCU, he stated,
"Let’s be clear what happens to you and your family when old ghosts in new garments seize power. Extremists come for the freedoms you thought belonged to you and everyone."
When the KKK began wearing white robes, it did so with the explicit thought of striking terror into its targets, by appearing as a ghost army.
Biden was addressing a group of students at an historically black college, who know full well what his use of the "ghost" trope to refer to extremists robed in new garments, not the garments of the old ghosts, is all about.
Biden is noting that the extremism that gave rise to the Klan remains, unfortunately, active in American life and will manifest itself in new garbs today, while remaining as dangerous as the extremism of the old ghosts of the past.

Morehouse Students Show Solidarity With Gaza During #Biden Commencement Speech
"It is my stance as a #Morehouse man, nay as a human being, to call for an immediate and permanent cease-fire in the #Gaza Strip," said valedictorian DeAngelo Fletcher.
“Morehouse is being used as political cover for Biden. This commencement is taking place on Malcolm X’s birthday. Morehouse is the school that Dr. Martin Luther King went to and we know he came out against Vietnam, which was also a genocidal war. Morehouse wants to blanket itself in this history, but bypass an understanding of it.”
