#Book 15: The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett -- what a fun #fantasy / #mystery with an eccentric investigator who reminds us of Holmes or perhaps Poirot. Super duper #audiobook. Thanks to prhaudio for the review copy
Susanna Clarke's short novel Piranesi (2020) is set (mostly) in another place: a labyrinth; a classical building filled with statues & floods, where our narrator lives. The novel offers a slow reveal of how he got there & the crime(s) of those who keep him there. Its both unsettling & compelling, but offers a well-imagined (and plausible) alternative reality. A quick but enjoyable read as long as realism isn't your thing.
#CurrentlyReading the second to last library book I have out right now. The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh is YA #fantasy. I am enjoying it so far. Will probably finish tomorrow while the 13 year old is skiing.
"Sugar and spice and everything nice?" Perhaps the standard, off-the-shelf girl may be made from such things, but this half-demon girl?
She isn't sweet, she isn't nice and you really shouldn't call her spicy, because she's got a magic hat full of weapons, a bad attitude and a mischievous sense of humor.
Fertig mit fast 850 Seiten "The Will of the Many" von James Islington.
I went to #Worldcon 80? #Chicon8 we called it. I'm still surprised that anyone thought it a good idea to host the #Hugo#Scifi & #Fantasy awards as well as all sorts of author talks in the country with the single largest censorship infrastructure in existence. All Chinese authors publish at the will of the government. Only government approved stories can be published or authors risk imprisonment and death. Why would ANYONE take any part in that, at all? Oh, big market...
Working on the finishing touches. Repainted the hand after shooting some new reference because it kept looking off 🙃 (Cue me sitting behind my desk with a kitchen knife to take pictures from the perfect angle, lol)
