"NGOs filed a criminal complaint against French oil giant #TotalEnergies and its top shareholders in Paris on Tuesday, seeking a trial for involuntary manslaughter and other consequences of #ClimateChange "chaos".
The case targets the company's board, including chief executive Patrick Pouyanne, and major shareholders that backed its climate strategy, including US investment firm BlackRock and Norway's central bank, Norges Bank."
"A U.N. tribunal on maritime law said Tuesday that countries are legally required to reduce #GreenhouseGas pollution, delivering a long-awaited opinion sought by small island nations that are on the front lines of #ClimateChange.
The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea found that carbon #emissions qualify as marine pollution and said countries must take steps to mitigate and adapt to their adverse effects."
Major oil companies have in recent years made splashy climate pledges to cut their greenhouse gas emissions and take on the climate crisis, but a new report suggests those plans do not stand up to scrutiny.
US fossil-fuel corporations are ‘the worst of the worst’.
"With the rising temperatures of #ClimateChange, homeowners face a new type of threat: invasive #termites. Previously unaffected areas could see an influx of termites, and the financial implications are substantial. Currently, termites cause over 40 billion USD worth of damage each year, and as their population expands, this cost is sure to grow."
What happens when a physicist concerned about planetary heating in the 1970s gets a property that was fully wrecked by years of sheep-farming, with almost no trees?
My environmentalist sister, Lis, tracked one down to find out – and it's mind-blowing!
Over 3,000 trees in & still growing more from seed, it's a gorgeous wonderland of a place to live – eco-friendly, biodiverse, off-grid, & protected against extreme weather events... 1/3
"The paper places a much higher estimate on economic losses than previous research, calculating a #SocialCostOfCarbon to be $1,056 per ton. This compares to a range set out by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that estimates the cost to be around $190 per ton.
The cost of transitioning away from #FossilFuels and curbing the impacts of #ClimateChange, while not trivial, pale in comparison to the cost of climate change itself."
"Sizzling #heat across Asia and the Middle East in late April that echoed last year's destructive swelter was made 45 times more likely in some parts of the continent because of human-caused #ClimateChange, a study Tuesday found. "
“From Gaza to Delhi to Manila, people suffered and died when April temperatures soared in Asia. The additional heat, driven by emissions from oil, gas and coal, is resulting in death for many people.”
The world’s big banks have handed nearly $7tn (£5.6tn) in funding to the fossil fuel industry since the Paris agreement to limit carbon emissions, according to research.
Tim Lenton and Steve collaborated on another report for which those with pensions or those who have those with pensions can press their funds to respond to. It's their fiduciary responsibility to accurately assess risk
"For many decades, the world's #oceans have been the Earth's 'get-out-of-jail card' when it comes to #ClimateChange.
Not only do they absorb around a quarter of the carbon dioxide that humans produce, they also soak up around 90% of the excess heat.
But over the past year, the oceans have displayed the most concerning evidence yet that they are struggling to cope, with the sea surface particularly feeling the heat."
Remember folks, mainstream economists assert that 3C warming is OKEY-DOKEY. They also put universities on a commerce footing and lobbied for debt based higher education.
They also say they are a scientific discipline, because they believe that humans operation on a rational basis. Of course, they demonstrate evidence regarding that assertion.
The largest ever recorded leap in the amount of carbon dioxide laden in the world’s atmosphere has just occurred. The global average concentration of carbon dioxide in March this year was 4.7 parts per million (or ppm) higher than it it was in March last year, which is a record-breaking increase in CO2 levels over a 12-month period.
