This is both a snapshot of the contemporary state of #palestine and an approachable #history of the area wrapped in heartbreaking personal stories, all rotating around a single catastrophe that could only happen in a city built on #racists#apartheid infrastructure
Israeli religious Zionist teens [neo fascist youth] clashing with police officers, Journalists and Palestinians in Jerusalem's Muslim quarter on Wednesday.
[cont’d] hundreds of men singing song of vengeance, “Death to Arabs”
Imagine what a march like this feels like, when hundreds of young men (youth, as the Israeli media calls them) are passing through your neighborhood, while the state insists its ok, knowing very well the only purpose is to platform Jewish supremacy and intimidation of the residents of the the old city of Jerusalem.
[…] Hours before the parade officially launched, hundreds of young men rampaged through the Old City's Muslim Quarter chanting "Death to Arabs," and violently attacked Palestinians, journalists and activists. Some of the march participants also entered Palestinian shops.
[…] In past years, the marches included countless violent incidents, racist calls and incitement by the participants against residents of east Jerusalem. Almost every year, hundreds of young men are documented singing songs of vengeance and hate accompanied by calls, "Death to Arabs."
[…] Although petitions filed in the past against the march's route through Damascus Gate and the Muslim Quarter have been dismissed by the courts several time, the judges have taken care to order the police to act with a strong arm against inciters and racist calls. In recent years, organizers have made a substantial effort to reduce these acts, but the calls have continued, albeit less than before.
[cont’d] #Israel / Police Detain Palestinian Photographer Who Was Attacked by Jewish Youths During Jerusalem “Flag March”
Instead of investigating or arresting the attackers (Jewish youths) who violently assaulted the Palestinian freelance photographer Saif Kwasmi during the Jerusalem “Flag March,” the Israeli police detained and questioned the victim himself.
Kwasmi was attacked by a mob of around 100 Jewish youths who beat him and threw objects at him during the march, slightly injuring his head. Instead of arresting any of his attackers, the police later detained Kwasmi for hours and confiscated his equipment, after a right-wing activist falsely claimed he was a Hamas operative.
The police state Kwasmi is "not recognized as a journalist" and had been previously banned from the Temple Mount/Haram al-Sharif area, using this to justify detaining him instead of his attackers.
18 teenagers were arrested for violence against journalists/Palestinians in other events that took place on the day.
Israeli Jewish-supremacist Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir: "Every house in #Gaza has a picture of Al-Aqsa Mosque. We must break into their holiest site."
Why isn't this monster sanctioned by the western leaders? How far does he need to go before they take action against this JewishLKK leader?
Can we treat this monster like holocaust deniers at least?or is it too much to ask?
I've only read a few Palestinian prisoners stories and I have to stop each time. I'm usually one who can sit and read for hours. It's devastating but necessary reading - we MUST get these stories to as many eyes as possible.
Do not expect him to be listed as a hostage in the list of those demanding release of the #hostages: The father of Ahed Tamimi was #kidnapped by Israeli forces
Bassem #Tamimi The father of Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi was kidnapped by Israeli #occupation forces from the village of #NabiSaleh in October 2023. His family has not heard from him since then.
South Africans angry at joblessness, #inequality & power shortages have cut support for the #ANC to 40% in this week's election, ending 3 decades of dominance in #SouthAfrica by the party that freed the country from #apartheid.
A dramatically weakened mandate for the legacy party of #NelsonMandela, down from the 57.5% it got in the previous 2019 parliamentary election, means the ANC must share #power w/a rival in order to keep it.

[...] "Only a racist and corrupt police force arrests a citizen like Rasha Khreim Kharami from Majd Al-Krum, an Arab woman, because of a post against the war and a post against the police: handcuffs and blindfolding in the police station courtyard. She was brought before a judge, who released her home. The attackers of the kidnapped families are not arrested, the settlers who attack Palestinians are not arrested, the murderers and crime organizations roam free. But Rasha is arrested as a means of punishment and humiliation."
#Spain and #Ireland are the largest and most politically influential #EU nations to recognize Palestinian statehood, joining a few other European countries that have already done so.
While largely symbolic, the three nations hope their move will gather momentum and spur more EU countries to follow suit. The #UK, #Australia and some other EU states have indicated they could also recognize Palestinian statehood. However, #France said now is not the right time, while #Germany sided with the #US in rejecting a unilateral approach, insisting dialogue is needed for a two-state solution (the model, the Oslo accords, favored Israel and the status quo at the expense of Palestinian right for self-determination).
[cont'd] #Palestine / The recognition of the State of Palestine comes at a time when there is very little left of Palestine to recognize (Trócaire, May 2024)
The recognition of Palestine as a state comes at a time when there is little left of Palestine to recognize, due to Israeli settlements and occupation. The Palestinian territory has been fragmented, with the Gaza Strip and West Bank separated, and the Jordan Valley being annexed by Israel.
Human rights violations and restrictions faced by Palestinians, include limited access to water, land, and freedom of movement. There's a need for international pressure to end the occupation and ensure a two-state solution.
