Well I successfully cancelled my pledge and got this response from the ACLU. Reads very PR-y to me and not sure how to feel about it

Thanks so much for reaching out and sharing your concerns.

The ACLU is a free speech organization, at heart. We wholeheartedly support labor unions, the right to organize, the right to free speech, and with it – the right of workers to criticize the organization. It only makes the organization stronger.

We are gravely disappointed by recent press that suggests otherwise, and we are working with them to address mistakes in coverage.

The first collective bargaining unit in ACLU headquarters was established in the 1970s, and we have had a productive, decades-long relationship with that union. We voluntarily recognized our second collective bargaining unit in 2021 without any opposition. ACLU management values its workers and provides essential benefits to employees, including a living wage for the lowest paid staff members of more than $70,000.

We are not challenging the NLRB, nor are we challenging the authority of NLRB’s General Counsel. The NLRB website now contains the accurate legal document to reflect this.

I want to assure you that the ACLU’s integrity remains intact.

Please know that we greatly value your partnership and hope that you continue your critical support of the ACLU.

This doesn't sound like a "DEI-crazed HR department" (article's words), so much as the ACLU cynically crying racism as a way to prevent an employee from having an NLRA-protected claim(s) against them. Their conduct in pushing to invalidate the current NLRB head also suggests that this is purely about avoiding official review, rather than being 'too woke' or something.

Forcing binding arbitration on people and reducing the choices American workers have to respond to unfair labour practices seems like it would go against the purpose of the American Civil Liberties Union from end to end. But what do I know...

This is extremely disappointing to read. Likely cancelling my aclu donation. Was considering pointing it elsewhere already and this is likely the news that'll make me switch
