Saw someone post a stupid Forbes article that says the profit from the new Star Wars movies doesn’t cover the cost Disney spent buying the franchise.

Duh. That’s only one small slice of the revenue stream. Buying a franchise is a long term investment and takes over all the revenue streams and all future revenue streams. I have no doubt Disney is quite happy with their investment.

@deinol yeah all the branded merch and the relentless onslaught of spinoff upon spinoff upon spinoff is going to make it worthwhile very much

@erikcats @deinol and not to forget the patronage from the two themed lands at their US parks, plus the SW attractions at most of the others.

It’s like that episode of the Simpsons where Moe is making $$ while Homer is saying he lost a customer .

@WhombeX @erikcats

All of that. I’m sure as part of the deal they got a projection of revenues for the next ten years without any new movies or shows.

Star Wars is just printing money at this point.
