Set up:

  • Hide from a doe I harvested in Jan

  • Fleshing beam made out of mostly scrap wood. The beam itself is red oak 2x6x4, shaped with planer and sander.

The kit from Advanced Tanning Solutions. It has everything I need. I just had to buy an apron and some gloves.

The page has a video of the hide prep process. I fully expect that I will goof up on this hide, but we'll see how it goes!

Closeup of fleshing beam and the piece of wood that holds the leg in place under the beam. In the background is the deer hide ready to be processed.
View of fleshing beam from front, showing the smoothed, rounded top of the beam. It is nice red oak.
A picture of a deer hide, skin side up, ready to be processed. This was frozen right after it was removed.
