Listening in on the German news on yesterday's , I feel the main point was missed:

was extremely well prepared, rescue efforts were fast and reliable, the construction reform after the 1999 quake worked with only some 30-ish buildings destroyed on the whole island.

Also: It took the Taiwan Railway Association one day to free the rails of the debris of a 7.2 earthquake.

In Germany, trains don't run for a week after the first snowfall.
