I'm in the information and inspiration camp myself, but I think I can understand the other side of it.
For a lot of people, they treat RPGs the way I treat cars. I don't want to customize it or have any deep understanding on how it works. I just want it to go.
@SJohnRoss I generally don't frame it as a system "letting" you do something, so much as mechanically supporting it. For example, one time I joined a DnD5 campaign where I wanted to play a carpenter, but there was a complete lack of crafting rules, so it didn't work well. Granted, I'm coming at this from the perspective of someone who likes plenty of game with their roleplaying; different approaches warrant different levels of mechanical support.
