After a short negotiation with my youngest child, I was allowed to turn the car and check out the birds I had spotted along the road. But not for more than 5 minutes.

But that was enough to identify them as Lesser Black Backed Gulls, my first for '24 😍 .

A little later I had to pick up my oldest - and took my camera with me 📸 🙂

Two Lesser Black-backed Gulls standing in shallow water, with some sand visible at the top of the picture. The two birds are standing next to each other, facing the same direction. They have almost black wings, a white line where the tail starts and then very black tail feathers with white dots. Their head is not so big, and they don't look very "mean" (if that is possible). Their yellow beaks have a red dot at the bottom part.
