I applaud Omar's approach!

The only point that I'm turning in my head is that he takes a rules-centric approach to coming up with his game.

The more I dig into Traveller and my Battlestar Galactica setting, the more I'm enjoying a setting-centric approach, and then limiting myself to being consonant to the LBBs if I need a rule or mechanic to support the setting.

Tomato, tomahto, I get it.

@chgowiz the mechanics should fit the setting. That’s why I agree with the sentiment that 2e is the pinnacle of D&D. Not because it’s inherently better than 1e or Oe (we don’t need to go into the organization and clarity of writing of the various editions) but because it’s designed as a plug-n-play system mechanically. Need skills for your setting? Plug ‘em in. Need additional magic rules? Plug ‘em in. Need…you get the idea.

@Oiselarius My goal is to go one step further and to present the world in such a way that the players never see the mechanics. FKR nirvana? :D
