Abortion is the hot button social issue that Republicans use to persuade middle class conservatively religious people to vote against their own economic interests so they can end what they are told repeatedly is America's greatest offense against God. Republicans do this because they otherwise lack allies to help them pass their agenda of shifting the tax burden off themselves and onto people who are barely making it because of housing and rent inflation and stagnant wages.
