I've long thought that social media is a particular type of intermediary communication where its form is editable, but its function is spontaneous -- it looks like typing but acts like speaking. People just plain forget that they don't have to post every thought that's in their head. Posting every thought in your head is what folks think social media is for -- or at least, it's how the social media companies would really like for you think about it.

You're using a "social media company" and can't even see this post, while I'm using "social media" and actually get to be social with the people here instead of yelling into the void....
That's why I post a lot of my thoughts, because I wouldn't mind being social about them. I enjoy being social.
