@rbreich Much simpler and more palatable to people is eliminate the step up in cost basis upon inheritance. Why do those gains never get taxed? Makes no sense. Even if the inheritor doesn’t sell immediately, the lower basis should persist.
@rbreich this is a distorted measure of wealth. Suppose that last year there were 100 people with $1bn each and 200 people with $950mn each, and that this year all these people become 10% richer. The total wealth held by billionaires has more than tripled because of all the newly created billionaires. But that's not an accurate reflection of how much richer the very rich became.
