MUAs are a common feature of technical literature. They can help fields of study in their infancy seem more impressive. They can frustrate and annoy readers.

An effective MUA stands some chance of being decoded from context. That is, it's not too heavy on the "Mysterious" part. A good MUA can be pronounced as a word. (Without being over-precious & trying to spell something.)

Some MUAs are so famous their words are forgotten. But, isn't such a MUA ... necessary ... making it more of a MA?
