My 18-year-old brother had his life shattered when he was hit in the spinal cord by shrapnel during a bombardment in our civilian neighborhood. The severe injuries required emergency neurosurgery, which saved his life, but his journey toward recovery is far from over. He still has shrapnel lodged under his lungs, awaiting another critical surgery. Without further medical treatment, he may never walk again and could face a lifetime of paralysis.
