@GottaLaff
Even though this is your plan, I know this still stings. It's hard to leave the home where you brought your kids home from the hospital and all those wonderful memories. Now, it's all about the future!
I've been meaning to ask you about something. A friend is planning to drive to Alaska and was told that in order to do so, he would have to prove he has a clean record. He had a couple of misdemeanors as a youngster and had to have them documented and friends swear he's an upstanding guy. Did you all have to go through anything like that?
I know! I've been through and stayed in Canada tons of times and never had to do something like that. And he's just driving through. I think he got fed a load of horse shit. Thanks for the feedback!
@GottaLaff We went to look at a smaller house for sale nearer to our daughter last week. To us, all our kids are encouraging about making a move like this but in an unguarded moment I heard my son and son-in-law discussing what a pain in the ass it’ll be to have to move all my heavy machinery out of our current basement. I feel bad about that because I’d just as soon hire movers to do it but both of them are the kind of men who would insist that I let them do it.
@GottaLaff Now that we’re getting older we realize our current home is getting to be too big and we would like to have everything on one level. And being closer to the kids would be a bonus. My tools won’t be a barrier. I got most of them into the basement by myself. But I was 40 years younger then.
@BigBoppa I hope we can find a house that has the option of a downstairs main bedroom. We created one in this house, but Canada homes are nearly all 2 story + a basement.
@KingShawn All of the above. Sad because I LOVE this house. We renovated top to bottom, inside and out, all my design (I'm pretty good at it). I'm scared because I need good drs and I don't have them yet, in BC. I'm SO excited because... everything!
@GottaLaff You will find a doctor. The BC government just approved a substantial wage increase,( if my memory is correct) and I am sure that will attract more physicians. Someone will help you. Remember, you are not moving to Alberta or Ontario, after all. @mentallyalex@KingShawn
@Snowshadow@GottaLaff@mentallyalex To be fair, while it’s gotten “easier” to find a doctor, it’s still not “easy.” You’ll have an advantage being in/near the big city though.
Here on the Sunshine Coast, there are NO DOCTORS taking new patients. 😢
@Snowshadow Oh I know, but I won't have a choice of who. I grew up spoiled bc my dad was a dr and I've been treated like royalty by all my drs as a result. I got the creme de la creme and excellent treatment.
Now I won't know them, nor will I be able to get one who I choose. It will be much different. But I do have help: The pharmacy my son works at in his spare time, has already offered. We're good! @mentallyalex@KingShawn
@GottaLaff Well there you go. Looking for a new home, or have one built. There's something to look forward to. I have moved around like a nomad so I don't truly get attached to one dwelling. @mentallyalex@KingShawn
@fondoffawns Mixed feelings, def. I can't wait to move, but I LOVE our house. We completely redid it, top to bottom, inside out. My design. So it'll be tough to top that.
@GottaLaff Don't forget to take pictures, inside and out. Even if everything is already moved out. And picture of your favorite views from the window. I hope you'll enjoy Canada. I've been to Victoria, and it was beautiful!
Wow! I moved into my house in 1999, my neighbors moved in 6 mos before me. We've been friends ever since. They are moving out of state. I had a good cry. I know they are going to be happy where they are going (closer to family).
