Ben Bradford looks at how, despite claims to the contrary, the new right and the old right are the same old critter. What's continuous in Republican politics for decades is the desire to "organize discontent" by inflaming rage among voters with an endless supply of manufactured culture-war grievances.
Dangle new imaginary threats in front of them and keep them enraged, and they'll keep voting GOP, regardless of the economic harm to themselves.
@MasterMischief 😀 And I was surprised to read in the article that the right-wing rage-manufacturing machine in the 1970s accused public schools of teaching children that cannibalism is A-OK.
@MasterMischief 😀 I was incensed that, after I suffered through the first several grades of public school, school officials suddenly became soft and allowed — mandated — naps for first- and second-graders. They were told to bring towels to school and were allowed to lie on them next to their desks for a time after recess. No such sybaritic luxuries for me and mine when were in first and second grade a few years earlier! Though we got to lie on the floor for nuclear-bomb drills….
