Designing formicariums and keeping ants is an art form. Look at this set up for honeypot ants! (Myrmecocystus mexicanus)

Some ants in Myrmecocystus are raised to be "repletes" with expanded gasters to store honeydew & water for the droughts in their harsh desert home environments. The repletes suspend themselves from the ceiling. So when designing nests for these ants "hanging space" is a must.
