a big part of it is that we violate children's consent in so many ways.

  • "hug your "—even if they don't want to.
  • meals, especially with guests, double-especially with dishes they've never had before.
  • clothing choices, particularly with formal events.
  • "boys will be boys", "they're doing because they like you", etc.
  • forcing them to apologise when they're not sorry.
  • forcing them to forgive someone for harm done to them.

and on and on. just having a conversation about consent isn't enough, and it's not just about bodily autonomy.
