Another argument I'm seeing in favor of the is that if your Mastodon posts are public, people and scrapers can already access them, so why object to having to of ?

I'd like to respond to that with an analogy: In my neighborhood, there's a certain restaurant. It's open to the public and as such is a public space, but I don't go there because its owner vocally supports political views that hurt LGBTQ people, so it attracts certain patrons I'd rather avoid. Now, sometimes I have to walk outside this restaurant to run errands and such, and people inside the restaurant can look through the windows and see me on the sidewalk. I can't avoid that, but I can avoid going in, and we would generally say that anyone who would try to force me to go in is being unreasonable.

Just because I'm existing in public doesn't mean I have given to be harassed or be put in situations where it's more likely for me to be harassed
