a visualization of 'ring species' . pictures of salamanders pointing to their geographic locations around a mountain range. the general pattern is that neighboring populations can often interbreed and then as you move around the ring in one direction.. you get to a point where you started and the two populations are so different they don't interbreed. reproduced from Pereira et. al. 2011 "Predictors for reproductive isolation..."
