Politico: “Former #Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is launching a #Senate bid, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The anti-Trump Republican is expected to file for the open Senate seat on Friday, the last day of the filing deadline. Hogan is popular in Maryland and his entrance in the race is a huge recruiting coup for Republicans, but taking the spot of retiring Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin will be an uphill battle in a deep-blue state”
@GottaLaff
What Hogan should have done is switch parties since GOP is now a cult where he doesn’t fit in. He could justify it the same way Reagan did by saying, “I didn’t leave the party, it left me”. An opportunity lost for him and the country.
@Wileymiller@GottaLaff Switch to who? LOL The Dems in Maryland won't have him. No one forgets that after he got over having cancer he returned to being a bastard. I guess he could have gone Independent but then he wouldn't get $$$.
Edit:...and welcome. Any friend of @GottaLaff is a friend here.
I think Dems in any state would welcome an anti-Trump republican. It’s good PR. But it’s a moot point. If Hogan thinks he’s going to be the savior of the GOP, he hasn’t read the room.
@Wileymiller@GottaLaff gotta disagree there, but I'm an I. If I was a D I would argue that anti-Trump former R's come into the party and can dilute the strength of support for a progressive agenda. Hogan is no progressive and he isn't even a moderate. And more importantly the people of Maryland know that he isn't.
@GottaLaff Maryland guy here. No chance that I'll vote for him, just hoping that the Dems will field a good candidate.
The only reason Hogan got to be elected governor in the first place is because the Dems put up a guy who was a total dud.
Then Ben Jealous ran against him for Hogan's second term. He was a good candidate but ran a poor campaign, and he was running against a relatively popular incumbent, which is pretty tough no matter who the candidate is.
