A quick video I shot today with narration about the newest member of the colony... being a young ant can be hard. Your older and often smaller sisters think they know where you belong and they can be very brusk about pulling you around if you are in the wrong place!

She's just a baby!

@walnuthulls

Ants are so impatient!

Pulled along by the mandible by a smaller, but older sister. I think she was worried about such a young naive ant being in the room where I was shining light to film them.

They don't really like light very much.

I wonder if I had some plastic tweezers and if I tried to gently pull an ant along like this would she follow? Or would it just scare her since the tweezers would not have the right pheromones?

Or maybe she can see her sister and that's important?

@futurebird you need to start producing ant pheromones like you're a rove beetle

@MLE_online I misread that as “rave beetle”. I half think it made just as much sense that way. @futurebird

@futurebird The light in that photo has a marvelous Hieronymus Bosch feel.
