George Washington broke the law to keep a woman enslaved. When she escaped from slavery, he plotted multiple attempts to kidnap her and her baby into slavery. He led an explicitly genocidal campaign against the Haudenosaunee during the revolution. He personally led an army to force farmers to pay taxes so the state could repay its creditors, who included…George Washington.
The US has always been pretty explicit about its character and intent.
