I have learned that if you become president in the US and just buy some judges left and right you can bascially do whatever the fuck you like, even way after you leave office

I can't take the US seriosuly anymore.

Putting people in jail for the most stupid things but keep the criminal former president out of jail at all costs

Corruption much? 🤑

The Republicans have lost all morals and all bad things from them are in them. However, the Democrats have decided to let evil triumph by being good people who stand by and do nothing.

Even now, they could pack the Supreme Court but don’t. Holding to dead norms is a choice. They need to get loud. AOC is a better choice to reseed Dems but right now we should vote Biden.

Compromise can’t work because the right wing just pull more to the right to shift the baseline to the right.

To say AOC isn’t good enough is just racism being loud. Even if not her, like her.

@taatm @stux @falcennial @GottaLaff Why can’t newly enabled King Joe add 10 or more Dem-friendly Supremes right now, then get them to reverse all these recent Trump- friendly decisions? Starting with the one that overturned the prohibition against Insurrectionists running for president? Seems to me that would go a long way to protecting Democracy. Or repeal the 2-term limit and bring back Obama? To paraphrase 45 “When you’re a King they let you do it.”

Indeed he did say that and he is wrong.

@taatm Yes, he is wrong. He worries it will backfire if GOP are in charge. Meantime, it could help tremendously. @JonChevreau @stux @falcennial

@GottaLaff @taatm @JonChevreau @stux @falcennial FWIW, the immunity ruling says presidents can't be prosecuted for official acts, not that whatever the president does is lawful. Even under this ruling, no president can just decree that the Supreme Court now has 21 members. Nor does it suspend habeas corpus: if Biden orders Trump arrested and held without trial, the courts will order him released.

(Those powers won't come until later, when there's a GOP president again.)

> Those powers won't come until later, when there's a GOP president again.

Precisely this. Even if Biden decides to invoke Dark Brandon and go this route, the Republicans would pull every dirty trick imaginable to negate the action. THEN use it as ammunition to 'prove' Biden is worse than Trump, threatening the election. Independents will not vote for Biden, the benign dictator.

If Donald Trump takes office and begins ordering public executions...is this an "official act"?

One argument -- of course -- would be that since it had been decreed from the Oval Office, obviously this is an "official act".

Following this logic, if Biden fires the Supreme Court while in the Oval Office is this not an "official act"?

🤔

@clintruin @ralfmaximus @GottaLaff @taatm @JonChevreau @stux @falcennial If "firing the Supreme Court" were deemed an official act, then the president who tried to do so couldn't be personally prosecuted for it, which isn't the same as "the rest of the government would follow along." Chief Justice Roberts would still show up for work the next day, lawyers would appear and argue, etc. The "firing" order would still be unconstitutional and void.

@msbellows @clintruin @ralfmaximus @GottaLaff @taatm @stux @falcennial no need to fire existing SC members, just stack the court with more Dem-friendly ones

@JonChevreau @taatm @stux @falcennial It was time to rethink when he was elected. This court was in charge then too.
