turns out on the google clock if you dont let the animation finish before pressing okay itll choose whatever time the minute hand happens to land on, so you can very easily accidentally set your alarm almost an hour after you meant to. whoever implemented this deserves to be shot

video showing the google clock app on an Android phone. i tap new alarm, tap 7, wait a split second so the minute hand wraps around to 0, and press ok, the time is set to 7:00. then i do the same but pressing ok a bit sooner. this time the minute hand doesn't finish its animation and stays on the 58th minute, setting the alarm to 7:58. i repeat this a few times and it lands on various different times in the high 7:50s
