I’ve never been able to adjust to anything past console TVs. Flat panel TVs are aesthetic terrorism.

@studiofox So you have a box tv in your house right now that you watch?!?😳

@BeAware no, we have a flat panel but it’s not really used other than for the kid’s video games.

If I’m watching anything it’s usually on my computer or tablet. But when I’m really in a mood I do have an old tv from the 90s in my basement so I can hook up the VCR and watch all of my old X-files tapes

@studiofox ah, okay. So when you watch stuff on the PC, it's a modern flat panel, right?

🤷‍♂️it's functionally the same thing as a regular TV, so I guess you did adjust, you just adjusted to watching a small screen.

@BeAware yes and no. Mentally I differentiate the two because of experience:

On the computer I expect to be sitting at a desk looking at a screen and not anything else.

In the living room, I expect to be watching a show but since I am not “at” something (like I’d be “at my computer”) the experience becomes more holistic. I am apart of the room and a participant in the experience so everything in the room contributes to that.

So, I think the problem with flat panel TVs is that they’re bulky like furniture but decidedly anti-furniture because you end up having to mount them on a wall or set them on top of other furniture.

The experience is disjointed with a push/pull.
