Not that anyone wants, needs or asked for my take on it, but … nothing changed between Thursday and Friday. We didn't learn a single thing we didn't already know. And the freakout over Biden's debate performance is doing vastly more harm than the debate performance itself did.
Yeah, Biden's too old. He was always too old, not because of his capacities but because his worldview is that of a drastically different time, and in that respect he was no different from most of the other choices we were offered in 2020. The baton needed to be passed, and instead, it was clung to.
And what we got was this: Terrible choices on COVID, terrible choices on immigration, downright ghastly choices on Gaza … and more good done in every other respect that I have to grudgingly admit that despite those other travesties, he's been the best president of my lifetime. Low bar, but true.
It's important to note that voting for Biden isn't just voting for Biden. It's voting for GOAT Lina Khan at the FTC. It's voting for Deb Haaland at Interior. It's voting for Buttigieg at DOT. It's voting to keep the EPA and NOAA. It's voting for the most female and POC appointees in history.
Trump, meanwhile, is the worst of all possible outcomes in every respect. He's bad enough, but never mind him—think about all the people he had working for him.
Steven Mnuchin. Google that fucker.
Ryan Zinke. Google THAT fucker.
Wilbur Ross. Mark Meadows. Betsy DeVos. Bill Barr. Mike Pompeo …
The DNC is already going to be pandemonium because of the administration's Gaza policy. Anyone proposing ADDING to that pandemonium by throwing the party nomination up in the air is out of their gourd … or they don't have the best interests of the country, or the Democratic Party, at heart.
THEN, and only then, send Biden off to the Undying Lands of Valinor and start dismantling the gerontocracy in earnest.
At this point, the 2024 election isn't about our hopes and dreams. It's about triage. Let's solve the most pressing problem first, then the second, and so on. Work our way down.
P.S. I totally forgot to mention Project 2025, the National Capitalist American Families Party's plan for turning the United States into One Banana Republic Under God. THAT, not a nationally televised narcoleptic episode, is what we should be freaking out about.
@KeithAmmann
It's not being talked about enough, based on what I see hanging out on a few ask-people-questions subreddits. The recurring question is variations on, "What's this Project 2025 thing I heard about? Is it some kind of conspiracy theory, or is it real?" People have heard the name but the fact of it hasn't necessarily penetrated.
@KeithAmmann
This is really the true danger. Trump is nothing but a Trojan horse to get this agenda through.
Sadly enough, history is full of repeating cycles, and it might already be too late to stop this.
I can't think of a single instance where meaningful progress hasn't been achieved without major and momentarily successful conservative pushback in the few thousands of years he have record of.
@KeithAmmann Your posts thread on this is some of the most clear-headed summarizing of our current needs that I've seen on any of the encrusted landscape we call the web - thank you for it and hopefully someone with influence on the Dems will have similar thoughts that can be put into action.
@KeithAmmann I wanted and needed this. Biden's performance really disappointed me. I didn't realize he was so decrepit! And, likewise, my filter bubble showed me the worst of Trump's ramblings, but the debate proved him capable of full Gish gallop.
