In the US, it is a crime not to participate in the capitalist labor and housing markets.
You must sell your labor to capitalists for wages, and you must pay some of those wages to capitalists who own housing or control access to credit.
If you do not, you could be arrested and imprisoned, during which time the state is free to force you to labor for yet other capitalists for their profit.
