@jerry BTW... I used to subscribe to an English magazine called "PhotoPlus". It has Canon and Nikon versions (as I recall). Lots and lots of tips and very useful articles in it.
@jerry there's also these macro flash hoods that people use for insect super macros, which essentially give you 360º illumination (photo found online of a ready product, but you can make them yourself with white and black layers of paper and plastic tape)

The right tools for the right job is something I learned from helping my dad on DIY projects who was too cheap to purchase the right tools and we would spend hours more doing something that shouldn't take as long. I do think it helped me with problem solving as I was the one coming up with solutions with what tools we had available
