Real life recent experience: Picking up rental car at Heathrow airport, they recheck the license of the driver as you exit the rental place. My license is from 2015, old name and pic as I'm quite lazy on my admin.
Youngish guy at the exit looks at my license, looks at me, looks back at my license. Goes ...
"Is this you?"
(pause)
"Is this YOU!?!?"
... his eyes wide open. I smile back sweetly. He grins SO broadly. We're all good.

@Natasha_Jay I received a new photo ID last weekend. Card had pre-transition photo from ~2020 instead of 2023 photo. There's a little difference! Card will be checked by police etc at security checkpoints later this summer as I volunteer at major events. New photo submitted.
It took me a couple of years to change everything over ... Only caused a big problem when the Australian government made all the computers talk to each other ... Giggles
I still get a dividend payment in my old name ... Blush ... And by check too ... All so strange
