North Carolina just made medical masks illegal - the Republicans overrode the Governor’s veto. Protecting your health & the health of others is now a crime & people can demand you unmask in public.
The “exemption” is vague & problematic. This will lead to arrests & infections. It further isolates disabled people from society. It will disproportionately harm marginalized individuals and people of colour.
Also can we stop calling people in masks “sheep” yet? They’ve been in the overwhelming minority for years - and now they will literally be committing a crime while trying to protect their health. Masking has become an act of resistance - it’s simply laughable to lambast people as “sheep” for wearing a mask in 2024.
@broadwaybabyto I believe that Republicans wish to harm the health and welfare of the American people…… They wish to divide and control and deal death where they can. All in the name of power…..and destruction of the Constitution and the American Experiment……Where is the separation of Church and State and the independence of SCOTUS from political partisanship?? Maybe the American dream is closer to death than we realize.

@broadwaybabyto The Republicans are creating their own Universum, The American Nightmare, but not for the shameless rich, white people. It puts Gilead where it belongs, a story. But The American Nightmare is real and resembles Gilead dangerously. Trump will become the Highpriest with Eyes everywhere.
@broadwaybabyto I think they passed the law not out of spite, but because when you're being mass surveilled as we all are. It makes cops jobs much harder with a mask making facial recognition incredibly difficult.
@shannonpersists@broadwaybabyto Sunglasses make it harder to identify people than masks and those aren't being banned. They shouldn't be touching our right to mask with a 20 foot pole, especially not amidst #covid and #LongCOVID where millions are developing serious chronic diseases or worse. It's dumb and dumber. Police should make their money by protecting people not sabotaging their ability to protect themselves.
Sheep is not the word when most of the people who try to stare me down, fake cough or sneeze when near me, or mutter some rude comment are usually men (and usually white) who are larger and stronger than I am.
@dulcedemon exactly!!! I know these people are trolling but could they not be more original? Mandates have been over for years - now we’re taking a risk whenever we go out in public wearing a mask. That’s the opposite of being a sheep.
