Last night, after finishing Robert Rodriguez' “Rebel Without a Crew" tv series (each contestant is given $7k and 14 days to make a feature film) I watched two of the final products.

With a few grand and a few weeks both those films were already more fun and/or creatively interesting than a lot of the new flicks I've watched lately.

They're like $4 AUD on iTunes so I've been working through them. Another one left to go...

Fuck I love low-budget indie films.

@vampiress I just bought Monday - are there others you recommend?

It's worth noting too that ‘feature' length is generous here. Both are under 60 minutes. A good length though, IMO?

For those curious this is my current favourite:

This one is much slower. Totally different tone. I still enjoyed it for something that just felt totally different.

Can't find a trailer, but the link to the thing on iTunes is here: https://tv.apple.com/au/movie/on-the-run/umc.cmc.txlv7vn9o62rtul71jmis33j

I love the rough edges with microbudget films. It adds a lot of charm.

Bola Ogun, who directed and starred in this one, has gone on to direct a bunch of solid TV. Hope she does more of her own work though.

Alejandro Montoya Marin, who did Monday, has I think gone on to do some more indie stuff. I'll have to check those out.

Next time I get a free evening, I'm going to watch Phaedra, which is genuinely feature-length. It looks pretty wild.

It's interesting watching these films AFTER watching like 10 episodes of behind the scenes as they all got made.

I'm really hoping Phaedra works, as the director of that one really seemed to pour a LOT into it, and it was clearly hugely taxing for her.

(Which, y'know, fair - indie filmmaking is fucking hard, but geeze it's fun.)
