Charles Pierce zeroes in on the new Johns Hopkins study showing that infant mortality rates sharply increased in Texas following its draconian abortion ban. In one year, they rose 8% to 5.75 per 1,000 births, compared to a 2% increase in the rest of the US, with deaths due to birth defects going up by 23%, compared to a decrease of about 3% in the rest of the US.

As Pierce concludes, who says abortion isn't healthcare?

@WmShakesp3are Yes. I think Charles Pierce would agree.

@wdlindsy I haven't seen any stats on babies with birth defects who Didn't die in that 1st year. The forced birth folks should understand that women often don't let themselves get pregnant again when they have a child with severe disabilities to care for. Plus, this situation often triggers divorce.

@Nazani Those are very good points. And, as Charles Pierce notes, unfortunately, the ideologues crafting these draconian laws seem totally disinterested in hearing rational points like those and the information medical experts could share with them if they were willing to listen.
