People keep using BlueSky and decentralized in the same sentence. That's literally not a thing currently unless you're connected to Fediverse through BridgyFed.
"But there's PDS that aren't hosted by BlueSky!"
And let me ask, where ELSE can the data from that PDS go? Nowhere? Then it's not decentralized.
BlueSky has 1 website. BlueSky.
Fediverse has 20,000+ websites.
The only way BlueSky is currently decentralized, is through BridgyFed by opting in. It's not decentralized by design like Fedi.
@ddrhazy PDS is basically bluesky's version of instances except they aren't websites like Fedi, they ONLY host the data, no website. It stands for Personal Data Server. They are claiming this means BlueSky is decentralized but theres only 1 place for the data to go, so it's almost useless data unless it's on BlueSky.
@ddrhazy The server is controlled by whoever hosts it, but the data still goes to BlueSky only. You can remove the data from BlueSky, but you'll never know when/if the government or anyone else has access to it beforehand so....yea
