So long plastic air pillows: Amazon shifting to recycled paper filling for packages in North America

Amazon is moving from putting plastic air pillows in its packages in North America to using recycled paper filling instead, a move that’s more environmentally friendly and is said to secure items in boxes just the same, if not better

@GottaLaff Just so we're all aware of how good this is not...It costs more (in money AND PLASTIC) to replace the items this allows damage to come to!

If Amazon can do it in Europe, they can do it in Canada/North America.
In Central Saanich, BC, Canada, the corporation called Amazon uses internal combustion engine vans to deliver orders. But in Europe they are going electric. BC' targets are 40% reduction by 2030. The Central Saanich targets are to reduce by 45% by 2030 (2007 levels). Legislation is needed to mandate private corporations like Amazon to move off internal combustion engine delivery systems.

@GottaLaff

I remember when business's switched from paper bags to plastic bags. They said we were running out of trees and that the plastic bags would help save the environment.
Are the trees back now? 🤔

@maddad Trees can grow. Plastic kills.

@GottaLaff

Yes, I meant I think they lied to us in the 70's about the running out of trees thing.😀

Hooray! I'm tired of having to deflate them & throw them in the trash. Recycle in OK won't take them.

@GottaLaff fantastic news!

Here in France they occasionally stick mailing labels on a product’s original box (if you order just one thing), with no other wrapping, so no need of brown cardboard boxes (or fillings)

@GottaLaff I recently ordered a very large bottle of hot sauce... It came in a box that had a fair amount of wiggle room. It was packed with a loosely crumpled, single sheet of recycled paper... These are harrowing times. Glad to see the plastic go, but they may need to be more generous on the paper
