West is broad in general here on purpose. Definitions may be wildly different and I understand where you're coming from.

But then, I don't think we can compare this to anything historical, even ww2. So this is now a stress test that will define what this idea is and isn't for the next peace era.

What I'm referring to here is tendency to endlessly give a benefit of the doubt to anyone. Revise and revise your own history to find your own flaws, self-criticism should be practiced freely in order for us to meaningfully improve. But this exact thing coupled with anyone being able to express criticism that sounds plausible leads to an endless cycle of debate with no action takeb – which is imo the exact outcome russia wants. Nobody is trying to convince anyone but are trying to paralyze the process, throw in so many possibilities that sound valid to an average person that there is doubt and guilt – decision paralysis.
