So, I've just been told that "Followers only" posts can also be scraped easily as well and that they don't necessarily just go to Followers.

Is this true? Is there any proof of this happening?

That'd be wild...

@BeAware They aren't hidden from non-followers, that's for sure. So I'd think that'd mean they could be scraped. This is from my throwaway account at .social where I don't follow anyone...

@RxBrad Well, I don't keep my posts to "Followers only" so this is what I expect.

@BeAware Derp. Don't ask me why I thought you were talking about individual post visibility. Especially when those examples I posted would show up no matter what.

I should go take a nap.

@RxBrad Haha. It's fine. Though if I set an individual post as "followers only" I do expect it to only be seen by followers, regardless of my account status.

I do hope that is the case.

@BeAware pure conjecture, but they might still transit federated servers, which will receive the content ostensibly unencrypted. So if the scraper is actually federated on activity pub and we'll connected, it seems plausible.

@randy I could see a situation where they get the posts if they're following the account their trying to scrape if it's followers only. However, I don't see how it could be done if they weren't following said user...🤔
