There's four styles of fiction I am interested in. Space Opera, Cyberpunk, Sword & Sorcery, and Dark Fantasy.

Sword & Sorcery is the one I really want to work on for a videogame, as it's the one where you can indulge the most in lush and wondrous natural environments.

But it's also the one with the least interesting things to explore and to say. Cursing the cruel, uncaring gods has been done. Dark magic corrupts, no surprises there... What's left to explore?

    @SJohnRoss I think the main thing that sets S&S apart from Space Opera and Cyberpunk (and most of fantasy) is that the local cultures have very different values from our own. Showcasing how those values are bad and people should act more like we would, would be counter to what makes the genre interesting in the first place.

    @SJohnRoss
    I think my personal main thesis as a storyteller is "In any conflict, there are always more than the two options that the two opposing sides both claim to be the only possible outcomes. Do what you think is right, not what you are told has to be done."

    In Space Opera and Cyberpunk, this is a fairly straightforward theme to follow. How to do something with this in S&S is something I'll have to explore further.

    @SJohnRoss I've only been chipping away at this for 11 years. 😅
