Wrote a new chapter for the story about “The Planet of the Ants” it’s on convergent evolution. (technically they are not really ants, but you wouldn’t know it— they are of course people sized … mostly.)

@futurebird square-cube law for exoskeletal creatures taken care of in there?

@fencepost

They aren’t earth arthropods, just a case of convergent evolution— so their exoskeletons are made of a much tougher substance & have internal structures that make them durable. Due to the ratio of elements on Myrmecos strong calcium bones & shells never developed: creatures with internal skeletons are restricted in size due to this & bug-sized creatures are all tiny, mammal-like. (this aspect of the world building needs work and I love suggestions)

@futurebird @fencepost stupid question: what are ants (more genery insects) exoskeleton made of? I'm guessing not calcium based like mammals skeleton but I have no real clue...

@futurebird @fencepost How about cellulose structure reinforced with bioquartz fibers? A wooden skeleton wouldn't be terrible.
